Ehrlichiosis

Canine monocytic ehrlichiosis (CME) is caused by the bacterium Ehrlichia canis and transmitted by the brown dog tick. Following infection, the pathogen multiplies, triggering a systemic inflammatory response. The disease can present acutely, subclinically, or chronically and is characterized by nonspecific symptoms such as fever, lethargy, anorexia, and thrombocytopenia. In chronic cases, immunosuppression, anemia, and organ involvement frequently occur, which can worsen the prognosis.
